MNDF Officer Dies in Suspected Suicide at Military HQ; Police Launch Investigation

A Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) sergeant has been found dead in a suspected suicide at the military’s main headquarters in Male’, sparking a formal police investigation.
The officer, a 35-year-old man originally from Laamu Maamendhoo, was discovered late last night inside a bathroom at Bandaara Koshi, the MNDF’s central base. According to initial reports, he was found hanging and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In a brief message to the press, Maldives Police Service confirmed receiving a report of a death at the military compound and stated that an investigation is underway. However, no further information has been made public regarding the circumstances surrounding the death.
The MNDF has refrained from making an official statement, citing that the matter is under police jurisdiction. “The incident is being investigated by the Maldives Police Service. All official updates regarding the case will be released by them,” said an MNDF official.
