Man Arrested in Male’ for Stealing Safe with Over MVR 100,000

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a safe containing over MVR 100,000 from a home in Machangolhi, Male’.

The incident, reported to police late last night, sparked a swift investigation by the Maldives Police Service, which included gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

Suspect Tracked Down Through Surveillance

Thanks to security footage, investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect. The man, identified as 39-year-old Ismail Saif of Habibihep, R. Alifushi, was located and arrested around 11:05 AM this morning on Maaveyo Magu, a busy street in the capital.

Upon his arrest, officers conducted a search and reportedly discovered a significant sum of money believed to be part of the stolen amount. In addition, a mobile phone suspected to have been purchased with funds from the theft was recovered.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have not disclosed whether the entire stolen amount has been recovered or if more suspects may be involved. The case remains under investigation, and further updates are expected as authorities continue to piece together the events surrounding the theft.

The Maldives Police Service has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, noting that rapid response and community cooperation were key in this case.
