Maldivian entrepreneurs will soon have the opportunity to sell their products on China’s leading e-commerce platform, Alibaba.com. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed announced the initiative, which aims to open new international markets for local businesses.
To help businesses get started, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade will host a one-day online workshop on 16 September. The session, led by Alibaba experts, will guide participants through creating seller accounts, promoting products, and managing online sales effectively.
Minister Saeed shared details about the workshop on social media, emphasizing that it is designed to make online selling simple and accessible for Maldivian entrepreneurs.
The move comes as part of ongoing discussions with Alibaba.com, supported by the Chinese government. It aligns with efforts to expand trade between the Maldives and China under the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement. By enabling access to Alibaba’s global marketplace, the initiative offers Maldivian businesses a chance to reach customers beyond the local market.
Minister Saeed highlighted that this initiative fulfills a promise made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to help Maldivians sell goods on international platforms. Entrepreneurs who join the program will gain practical guidance and the tools they need to grow their businesses online.
Access to Alibaba.com opens doors for Maldivian manufacturers, artisans, and small businesses to promote their products to an international audience. The workshop on 16 September will give participants hands-on advice, ensuring they can navigate the platform successfully.
As e-commerce continues to grow globally, this initiative offers Maldivian entrepreneurs a timely opportunity to expand their reach and compete on a larger scale.
