The Bank of Maldives (BML) has unveiled “Swipe”, a groundbreaking digital wallet designed for both local and international transactions, marking a major leap forward in the nation’s digital finance landscape.
The launch ceremony, held at Barceló Nasandhura in Malé, was officially inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The event highlighted the growing emphasis on financial innovation and the government’s support for modern, tech-driven solutions that empower Maldivians to connect seamlessly with the global economy.
During the ceremony, BML showcased a video presentation introducing the features of the Swipe wallet. Attendees were given a first look at the application’s user-friendly interface and its wide range of capabilities.
According to BML, Swipe enables users to perform cross-border transactions effortlessly—allowing Maldivian individuals and businesses to send and receive payments worldwide.
The bank noted that the service is designed to reduce foreign currency shortages, encourage inflows of foreign exchange, and cut transaction costs for users across the Maldives.
International transactions through Swipe can be conducted without any service fees, making it a cost-effective option for global commerce. BML emphasized that Swipe is a 100% Maldivian-developed product, with quality standards matching those of the world’s most recognized payment wallets.
BML CEO Mohamed Shareef praised the collaboration between the bank and the Ministry of Economic Development, explaining that the project had been in development for over a year. He highlighted that Swipe aligns with President Muizzu’s pledge to improve accessibility to forex trading and international payment systems for Maldivians.
“Under our CTO’s leadership, we formed a team of highly skilled Maldivian youth who worked tirelessly on this project for the past 12 months,” Shareef said. “The result of their hard work is now here—Swipe, an international wallet that will make global financial transactions simpler, faster, and more efficient.”
Shareef added that Swipe would allow instant foreign currency transactions without extra charges, a feature expected to significantly benefit both local entrepreneurs and international tourists.
The wallet will help Maldivian businesses sell products globally, enable tourists to make payments through a Maldivian platform, and simplify daily financial transactions for residents.
“With Swipe, businesses can now receive payments instantly, and tourists can enjoy smoother transactions using a service developed right here in the Maldives,” Shareef noted proudly.

"ސްވައިޕް"ގެ މައިގަނޑު މަޤްޞަދު:
ބީއެމްއެލްއިން ބުނިގޮތުގައި، މި ވޮލެޓަކީ ދިވެހި ޒުވާނުންނަށާއި ވިޔަފާރިތަކަށް ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ މުޢާމަލާތްތައް ފަސޭހަކަމާއެކު ހިންގުމަށް ލިބިގެންދާނެ ޚިދުމަތެކެވެ.
މި ޚިދުމަތުގެ ސަބަބުން ޚަރަދު ކުޑަވުމުގެ އިތުރުން، ރާއްޖެއަށް ބޭރު ފައިސާ ގެނައުމަށް އެހީތެރިވެ، ބޭރު ފައިސާ ހޯދުމުގައި ދިމާވާ ދަތިތައް ކުޑަވާނެ ކަމަށް ބީއެމްއެލްއިން ފާހަގަކުރެއެވެ. ބީއެމްއެލްއިން އިތުރަށް ބުނީ، މިއީ ދުނިޔޭގެ އެހެން ޑިޖިޓަލް ވޮލެޓްތަކެކޭ އެއްފަދައިން، ދުނިޔޭގެ ކޮންމެ ތަނެއްގައި ވެސް ބޭނުންކުރެވޭނެ ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ ވޮލެޓެއް ކަމަށެވެ.

މިއަދުގެ ރަސްމިއްޔާތުގައި މި ޑިޖިޓަލް ވޮލެޓާ ގުޅޭ ވީޑިއޯ ޕްރެޒެންޓޭޝަނެއް ދައްކައި، އެޕްލިކޭޝަންގެ މުހިންމު ބައެއް ފީޗާސްތަކުގެ މަޢުލޫމާތު ވަނީ ދީފައެވެ.

ބީއެމްއެލްގެ ސީއީއޯ މުޙައްމަދު ޝަރީފް ވިދާޅުވީ، ދިވެހިންނަށް ފަސޭހަކަމާއެކު މުޢާމަލާތްތައް ކުރުމުގެ އިންތިޒާމު ހަމަޖެއްސުމާއި، ފޮރެކްސް އަދި ޓްރޭޑިންގް ޕްލެޓްފޯމުތައް ބޭނުންކުރެވޭނެ މަގު ފަހިކޮށްދިނުމަކީ ރައީސް މުޢިއްޒުގެ ވަޢުދެއް ކަމުގައިވާތީ، މިކަން ޙާޞިލުކުރުމަށް އެ ބޭންކާއި އިކޮނޮމިކް މިނިސްޓްރީއިން އަހަރުގެ ކުރީކޮޅުން ފެށިގެން މަސައްކަތްކުރަމުން އަންނަ ކަމަށެވެ.
ޝަރީފް ވިދާޅުވި ގޮތުގައި، ބޭންކުގެ ޓެކްނޮލޮޖީ ޓީމަށް ޓެކްނޮލޮޖީގައި ހުނަރުވެރި ދިވެހި ޒުވާނުން ހިމަނައިގެން، މި މަސައްކަތް 12 މަސް ކުރިން ފަށާފައިވާނެއެވެ. އަދި އެ މަސައްކަތުގެ ނަތީޖާގެ ގޮތުން މި އަހަރު ނިމުމުގެ ކުރިން ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ ވޮލެޓް 'ސްވައިޕް' ތަޢާރަފުކޮށް، ޚިދުމަތް ދެވޭނެ ކަމަށް ވިދާޅުވިއެވެ.
މި ޚިދުމަތާ އެކު، ހުނަރުވެރި ދިވެހިންގެ މަސައްކަތުގެ ނަތީޖާގެ ގޮތުން އިތުރު އެއްވެސް ފީއެއް ނެތި ވަގުތުން ބޭރު ފައިސާގެ މުޢާމަލާތްތައް ކުރެވޭނެ ކަމަށާއި، ފަތުރުވެރިންނަށް ވެސް ދިވެހި ޕްލެޓްފޯމެއް މެދުވެރިކޮށް ފައިސާ ފޮނުވޭނެ ކަމަށް ޝަރީފް ވިދާޅުވިއެވެ. އަދި މިކަމުގެ ސަބަބުން ދިވެހިންނަށް ފައިސާގެ މުޢާމަލާތްތައް ކުރަން އިތުރަށް ފަސޭހަވެ، ވިޔަފާރިތަކަށް ފައިސާ ލިބުން އަވަސްވެގެންދާނެ ކަމަށް ވެސް ވިދާޅުވިއެވެ.
