The Indian High Commission in the Maldives has confirmed that it is coordinating with Maldivian authorities to tackle the challenges faced by Indian workers in the country, following a reduction in overseas money transfer limits by the State Bank of India (SBI) in the Maldives.
The move by SBI comes amid a shortage of US dollars, which led the bank to cut the remittance limit for its customers from USD 400 to USD 50.
According to the High Commission, this significant reduction is expected to create substantial difficulties for Indian expatriates earning their salaries in Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR). Many workers rely on regular remittances to support families back home, making the new limit a serious concern.
The High Commission stated that talks have begun with both the Maldivian government and relevant Indian authorities to find a swift resolution. One focus of these discussions is leveraging recently introduced financial services linking India and the Maldives, including:

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) services for cross-border transactions

RuPay card usage for international payments

Opening Indian Rupee (INR) accounts in the Maldives
These measures aim to provide alternative channels for Indian citizens to send money abroad more efficiently, despite the ongoing US dollar shortage.
In the meantime, the High Commission has urged Indian residents in the Maldives to plan their remittances carefully, consider requesting salary payments in US dollars where possible, and monitor official updates from SBI and Indian authorities regarding the evolving situation.
The High Commission emphasized that resolving this issue remains a priority and that collaborative efforts are ongoing to ensure smooth financial support for Indian workers in the Maldives.

އިންޑިއާ ހައިކޮމިޝަނުން ނެރުނު ބަޔާނެއްގައި ބުނެފައިވާ ގޮތުން، ޑޮލަރުގެ ދަތިކަމާ ގުޅިގެން އެސްބީއައިއިން ވަނީ ބޭރަށް ފޮނުވޭ ފައިސާގެ ލިމިޓް 400 ޑޮލަރުން 50 ޑޮލަރަށް ވަރަށް ބޮޑަށް ދަށްކޮށްފައެވެ.
މި ލިމިޓް ދަށްކުރުމުގެ ސަބަބުން، މުސާރަ ރުފިޔާއިން ލިބޭ ރާއްޖޭގައި މަސައްކަތްކުރާ އިންޑިއާގެ ރައްޔިތުންނަށް މާލީ ގޮތުން ބޮޑެތި ދަތިތަކަކާ ކުރިމަތިވާނެ ކަމަށް ހައިކޮމިޝަނުގެ ބަޔާނުގައި ފާހަގަކޮށްފައިވެއެވެ.
މައްސަލަ ޙައްލުކުރަން މަސައްކަތްކުރާ ދާއިރާތައް:
މި މައްސަލަ އަވަސް މުއްދަތެއްގެ ތެރޭގައި ޙައްލުކުރުމަށްޓަކައި، ރާއްޖޭގެ ސަރުކާރާއި އިންޑިއާގެ ކަމާބެހޭ އިދާރާތަކާ އެކު މަޝްވަރާތައް މިހާރު ފަށާފައިވާކަމަށް ހައިކޮމިޝަނުން ބުނެއެވެ.
މި މަޝްވަރާތަކުގައި އެންމެ ބޮޑު އިސްކަމެއް ދީފައިވާ އެއް ދާއިރާއަކީ، ދާދި ފަހުން ރާއްޖެއާއި އިންޑިއާއާ ދެމެދު ތަޢާރަފުކުރި ޚިދުމަތްތައް މެދުވެރިކޮށް ހައްލެއް ހޯދުމެވެ. އެގޮތުން:
- ޔޫޕީއައި (UPI) ޚިދުމަތް
- ރޫޕޭ ކާޑު (RuPay card)
- ރާއްޖޭގައި އިންޑިއާ ރުޕީސް (INR) އެކައުންޓު ހުޅުވުމުގެ އިންތިޒާމު
މި ހުރިހާ ޚިދުމަތްތަކަކީ މި މައްސަލަ ޙައްލުކުރުމަށް ބަލާ ވަސީލަތްތަކެވެ.
އިންޑިއާ ރައްޔިތުންނަށް އިލްތިމާސްކުރުން (ޚުލާޞާ):
ހައިކޮމިޝަނުން ރާއްޖޭގައި ދިރިއުޅޭ އިންޑިއާގެ ރައްޔިތުންނަށް އިލްތިމާސްކޮށްފައިވަނީ، މައްސަލަ ޙައްލުވަންދެން:
- ފައިސާ ފޮނުވުމުގެ ޕްލޭންކުރުން
- މުސާރަ ޑޮލަރުން ދިނުމަށް އެދި ހުށަހެޅުން
- އެސްބީއައިއާއި އިންޑިއާ ސަރުކާރުން މިކަމާ ގުޅޭގޮތުން ދޭ މަޢުލޫމާތުތައް ފާރަލައި، އެއަށް ޢަމަލުކުރުން
