The Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced special operating hours for the final 10 days of Ramadan, confirming that physical branches will open on only two days during this spiritually significant period.
According to the bank, branch services will be available on Wednesday the 11th and Wednesday the 18th of this month. On both days, customers can visit branches between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm.
The final 10 days of Ramadan are set to begin next Monday.
Government Offices to Close for Last 10 Days
Under a policy introduced by the government, public offices will remain closed throughout the last 10 days of Ramadan. The decision is aimed at giving citizens more time for prayer, reflection, and religious observance during what many consider the most sacred part of the holy month.
In line with this nationwide adjustment, BML has scaled back its physical operations while continuing to maintain access to essential banking services.
Online Banking Services Remain Fully Accessible
While branch access will be limited, BML reassured customers that all digital banking services will remain fully operational during the last 10 days. This includes internet banking, mobile banking, ATM services, and card transactions.
For many customers, digital platforms have become the primary way to manage finances. With uninterrupted online access, individuals and businesses can continue making transfers, paying bills, and conducting routine banking without visiting a branch.
This approach reflects a broader shift toward digital convenience, especially during religious periods when reduced office hours are common.
Special Hours During Shawwal’s “Six Fasts”
BML also confirmed arrangements for the beginning of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan.
During the first six days of Shawwal, commonly known as the period of the “Six Fasts,” branches will operate daily from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. These optional fasts are observed by many Muslims shortly after Eid, extending the spirit of Ramadan into the new month.
By maintaining limited but consistent branch hours during this time, the bank aims to balance operational needs with religious considerations.
Planning Ahead for Banking Needs
With restricted branch access over the coming weeks, customers are encouraged to plan their in-person visits carefully. Those requiring over-the-counter services may need to schedule their transactions around the two announced dates during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
For everything else, BML’s digital services remain the safest and most convenient option.
