MIFCO Launches Premium ‘Ranvaru’ Brand with Five New Seafood Products

MIFCO Launches Premium ‘Ranvaru’ Brand with Five New Seafood Products

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has unveiled its first-ever premium product line under a new brand named “Ranvaru.”

The launch took place at a special ceremony held at the company’s main retail outlet in Malé, marking a new chapter for the state-owned fisheries giant.

A New Chapter for Premium Seafood in the Maldives

For decades, MIFCO has been a key pillar of the country’s fishing industry. With the introduction of Ranvaru, the company is now stepping into the premium segment with a distinct identity separate from its well-known Fasmeeru line.

According to MIFCO, Ranvaru is dedicated exclusively to high-quality products tailored for discerning local consumers. It is the first time the company has created a standalone brand specifically positioned as premium.

The initiative forms part of MIFCO’s broader strategy to diversify its offerings and expand its commercial footprint. By creating a premium label, the company aims to elevate locally produced seafood while strengthening its competitive edge.

Five Products Debut Under Ranvaru Label

At the launch event, five products were officially introduced under the Ranvaru name:

  • Yellowfin Tuna Steak (canned)

  • Yellowfin Tuna Bandaiydhoo (Belly) (canned)

  • Rihaakuru with liver, eggs, and organs

  • Rihaakuru with finely ground fish

  • Fried Rihaakuru with finely ground fish

The selection combines premium cuts of yellowfin tuna with traditional Maldivian fish paste varieties, blending modern packaging with authentic flavors that many households grew up with.

All five products will be available starting today at MIFCO’s retail stores in Malé. The company also revealed plans to introduce economy packs in the future, widening accessibility for customers.

For the next three days, shoppers will have the opportunity to sample the new products at MIFCO’s fish shop, offering a firsthand taste of what the premium line promises.

Focused on Local Market Acceptance

Speaking at the launch, Hassan Zahid Mohamed, General Manager of Local Sales and Marketing at MIFCO, emphasized that Ranvaru represents a commitment to quality.

He noted that the brand currently features two canned tuna products and three varieties of Rihaakuru, all produced to meet premium standards.

“Our aim is to introduce products that the public will embrace,” Zahid said. “In addition to the items launched today, we plan to expand the Ranvaru range with more varieties in the future.”

Zahid further explained that Ranvaru has been developed specifically for the Maldivian market. While MIFCO has long supplied premium-grade products for export, this initiative reflects a renewed focus on delivering similar quality to local consumers.

Elevating Local Seafood Standards

The introduction of Ranvaru signals more than just a product launch. It highlights MIFCO’s ambition to modernize its brand portfolio and enhance value-added production within the country.

In a nation where fishing is both an economic backbone and a way of life, the move could resonate strongly. If successful, Ranvaru may redefine how premium Maldivian seafood is perceived at home.

With tastings underway and shelves freshly stocked, the real test now lies with consumers. Will Ranvaru become the gold standard for local seafood? The coming months will tell.
