Timeline of Events
Reports indicate that Faris contacted one of AbduRahman’s sons before news of the attack had reached the public. The son initially missed the call but later returned it. During the conversation, Faris asked why a crowd had gathered outside AbduRahman’s home. Neighbors had not yet learned about the attack when the call took place.
All three of AbduRahman’s sons were in Male’ at the time of the incident. Faris works as an operator at the Fenaka water plant in Maalhos, located near AbduRahman’s residence.
Discovery and Scene
AbduRahman’s wife, Nazima Ibrahim, was the first to find him injured. The couple had been sleeping in separate rooms at their home, Mahiya. Nazima told authorities that she entered AbduRahman’s room around 1 a.m. to use the attached bathroom and discovered him struggling and seriously injured. She immediately contacted family members, though she did not call anyone who lived on the island at that time.
Witnesses who later entered the home described the scene as extremely bloody, with splatters reaching the ceiling.
Allegations and Community Reaction
Some residents have suggested that sorcery may have been involved in the attack. Reports indicate that a local shop had installed CCTV cameras following concerns about such practices, and some claim AbduRahman appeared on the footage.
Most people in Maalhos, however, reject these claims. Several residents stated that there is no evidence linking AbduRahman to sorcery or black magic, and that these rumors are appearing for the first time.
