Four individuals have been arrested after police conducted targeted drug raids at two apartments in Hulhumalé, authorities confirmed.
According to the Maldives Police Service, officers from the Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit recovered 24 grams of suspected drugs, 363 illicit pills, and MVR 4,500 in cash during the operations. The raids aimed to crack down on illegal drug distribution in the area.
Those arrested include Ahmed Saffan, 26, from Sh. Feydhoo; Shana, 32, from Malé; and two Bangladeshi nationals, Farooq Chowkidar and Safiq, both aged 50.
The Criminal Court has remanded Shana in custody for 10 days, citing positive drug test results and the seizure of items linked to her rented residence. Shana’s defense, however, denied any connection to the drugs or the property.
Saffan, who admitted to using drugs and requested treatment, was remanded for 15 days. He also claimed ownership of the substances discovered in his room.
The two Bangladeshi nationals were similarly remanded for 15 days. Police stated that the drugs in their possession were linked to wider criminal activity, suggesting that others may also be involved.
Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects and connections within the local drug network.
