Maldives Launches State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially established a new government company to manage the procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals across the Maldives.

The President’s Office confirmed today that the new entity, State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Ltd, has been formed under Article 15 of the Companies Act. The company will operate as a fully government-owned corporation.

The corporation will handle the import and supply of medicines, medical consumables, and healthcare equipment in bulk. Its responsibilities include distributing these essential supplies to hospitals and clinics throughout the country, ensuring that every region receives the necessary medical resources.

Until now, these functions were managed by the State Trading Organization (STO). The new corporation is expected to centralize procurement and supply, providing a more focused approach to managing medical and pharmaceutical needs nationwide.

By creating a dedicated organization, the government seeks to streamline the delivery of medicines and medical equipment while maintaining consistent standards across all health facilities. Officials have emphasized that the corporation will prioritize timely delivery and proper inventory management to prevent shortages in any part of the country.

This development represents a key step in improving the efficiency of the Maldives’ healthcare system, ensuring that both urban and regional healthcare facilities can access the resources they need without delays.
