Maldivian filmmakers have a new international platform to showcase their work, as the country has been officially invited to participate in the Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival in India.
The invitation was extended by India’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, according to a statement from the National Centre for the Arts (NCA). Films produced between 2020 and 2025 are eligible for submission, offering local creators an exciting opportunity to reach a wider audience.
The NCA has opened submissions for Maldivian filmmakers interested in participating. Entries can be submitted in Blu-ray, DCP, MP4, or DVD formats. The deadline for submissions is 31 December, giving filmmakers a few months to prepare their entries.
This platform offers an excellent chance for Maldivian films to gain recognition on an international stage, beyond the region.
The Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival, first held in 1995, is India’s third-oldest film festival. Over the years, it has become a respected venue for films aimed at children, drawing entries from across the globe.
While Maldivian films have regularly been featured at the SAARC Cultural Centre’s Film Festival the main international platform for local filmmakers participation in Kolkata presents an additional avenue for global exposure.
Maldivian films have achieved notable success at the SAARC festival in recent years, earning awards and accolades.
