The official YouTube channel of the President’s Office was recently hacked during a live broadcast, leading to its removal from the platform. The channel, which regularly streams events featuring the President, Vice President, and First Lady, reportedly aired false information about a cryptocurrency before being taken offline.
The incident occurred while President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was conducting a tour of several islands, with the channel streaming a live meeting as part of the official visit.
Following the breach, YouTube removed the President’s Office channel, citing violations of its community guidelines. The exact content flagged by the platform has not been publicly disclosed, but the false cryptocurrency broadcast was a central concern.
Speaking on the incident, Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel confirmed that the President’s Office cybersecurity team has launched an investigation.
“We will know what happened when they finish their work,” Minister Khaleel said, emphasizing the office’s commitment to understanding the breach.
The channel had long served as a repository for official videos, featuring Presidents and Vice Presidents dating back to the administration of former President Abdullah Yameen. It remains unclear whether the channel’s past content has been preserved or lost following its removal.
