The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced a three-month programme designed to give young Maldivians firsthand experience in the fishing industry. The initiative will provide five participants under the age of 24 with practical training and mentorship from seasoned professionals.
The programme, running from November 2025 to January 2026, was officially announced on 16 October, with applications closing on 23 October 2025. The scheme was published in the Maldives Gazette yesterday and is backed by the World Bank’s “Transforming Fisheries Sector in the South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project”.
Selected participants will gain direct exposure to the day-to-day operations of the Maldivian fishing industry. They will have the opportunity to practice pole-and-line fishing for skipjack tuna aboard prominent Maldivian vessels. Alongside this, they will receive guidance from experienced fishermen, learning valuable skills and insights into sustainable fishing practices and the broader fishing economy.
To take part, applicants must be under 24, show a genuine interest in pursuing a career in fishing, and not be currently listed in the Ministry’s fishermen registry. Required documents include a completed application form, a copy of the applicant’s ID card, and for those under 18, a letter of consent from a parent or guardian.
This marks the second round of applications for the youth fishing programme. An earlier session, announced on 2 September, was scheduled to run from September to November 2025. The initiative reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to encouraging youth participation and preserving the country’s fishing heritage.
With the fishing sector playing a vital role in the Maldivian economy, initiatives like this aim to foster early interest among young people. މި ޕްރޮގްރާމް ކުރިއަށް ގެންދިއުމަށް ހަމަޖެހިފައިވަނީ ނޮވެމްބަރު 2025 އިން ޖަނަވަރީ 2026 އަށް ކަމަށް ވުޒާރާއިން އޮކްޓޫބަރު 16 ގައި ވަނީ އިއުލާންކޮށްފައެވެ. މި ޕްރޮގްރާމަށް އެދި ފޯމު ހުށަހެޅުމުގެ އެންމެ ފަހު ތާރީޚަކީ އޮކްޓޫބަރު 23، 2025 އެވެ.
މި އިސްނެގުން އަމާޒުކޮށްފައިވަނީ މަސްވެރިކަމުގެ ދާއިރާއަށް ޒުވާނުންގެ ޝައުޤުވެރިކަން އިތުރުކުރުމަށެވެ. މިއީ ވޯލްޑް ބޭންކުގެ "ޓްރާންސްފޯމިންގ ފިޝަރީޒް ސެކްޓަރ އިން ދަ ސައުތު-ވެސްޓް އިންޑިއަން އޯޝަން ރީޖަން އެންޑް މޯލްޑިވްސް ޕްރޮޖެކްޓް" ގެ ދަށުން ކުރިއަށްގެންދާ މަސައްކަތެކެވެ.
ޕްރޮގްރާމްގައި ބައިވެރިވާ ފަރާތްތަކަށް މަސްވެރިކަމުގެ ޢަމަލީ ތަމްރީނާއި އިރުޝާދު ލިބިގެންދާނެއެވެ. މީގެ ތެރޭގައި މަޝްހޫރު ދިވެހި މަސްދޯނިތަކުގައި ވަޅޯމަސް ބޭނުމަށް ބިލެތް ދޯނި މަސްވެރިކަމުގެ ތަޖުރިބާކުރުމުގެ ފުރުޞަތު ހިމެނެއެވެ. އަދި ތަޖުރިބާކާރު މަސްވެރިންގެ ކިބައިން މި ދާއިރާގެ މަޢުލޫމާތާއި ހުނަރުތައް ދަސްކުރުމުގެ ފުރުޞަތުވެސް ލިބޭނެއެވެ.

ކުއްޖާގެ އައިޑީ ކާޑުގެ ކޮޕީއާއި ފުރިހަމަކޮށްފައިވާ ފޯމަކާއެކު، އުމުރުން 18 އަހަރުން ދަށުގެ ކުދިންނަމަ ބެލެނިވެރިޔާގެ ހުއްދައިގެ ސިޓީއެއް ހުށަހަޅަންޖެހެއެވެ.
މިއީ މި ޕްރޮގްރާމަށް އެދި ހުޅުވާލި ދެވަނަ ފަހަރެވެ. މީގެ ކުރިން، ވުޒާރާއިން މި ޕްރޮގްރާމް ކުރިއަށް ގެންދިއުމަށް ސެޕްޓެމްބަރު 2 ގައި އިއުލާނުކޮށްފައިވާއިރު، އެ ފަހަރު ޕްރޮގްރާމް ކުރިއަށް ގެންދިއުމަށް ހަމަޖެހިފައި އޮތީ ސެޕްޓެމްބަރުން ނޮވެމްބަރަށެވެ.
