The Maldives has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of people snorkelling at the same time during the Baani Event on 18 October 2025 in Baa Atoll.
A remarkable 623 snorkellers took part in the event, showcasing the nation’s deep connection with the ocean and its ongoing commitment to sustainable marine tourism.
The record-breaking attempt was organised by the Baa Atoll Council in partnership with Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC). Participants came from 13 islands and 15 resorts, including resort staff, international tourists, and local residents. The diverse turnout reflected a shared dedication to ocean conservation and community-led environmental initiatives.
“It’s incredible to see so many people come together for a single purpose—celebrating and protecting our ocean,” said a spokesperson from the Baa Atoll Council.
The snorkelling event took place near Villingilifaru Finolhu, roughly ten minutes from Eydhafushi, the capital of Baa Atoll. With its western lagoon and vibrant coral reefs, teeming with marine life, the area provided an ideal backdrop for this large-scale marine gathering.
The event kicked off at 16:30 hrs, with participants entering the water simultaneously along the sandbank. After an hour-long snorkelling session, a Guinness World Records adjudicator officially confirmed the achievement. The Baa Atoll Council received the official plaque during a celebratory ceremony featuring music, performances, and fireworks.
In addition to the Guinness recognition, the record was included in the Visit Maldives Book of Records. A commemorative plaque and coin were presented to the Baa Atoll Council by Ibrahim Shiury, CEO and Managing Director of VMC, honoring the milestone.
The Baani Event has become a symbol of national unity and environmental awareness, reinforcing Visit Maldives Corporation’s mission to position the country as a global leader in marine tourism and sustainability. ރާއްޖެއިން ވަނީ އެއްފަހަރާ އެންމެ ގިނަ އަދަދެއްގެ ބަޔަކު ސްނޯކްލިންގ ކުރުމުގެ ގިނަސް ވޯލްޑް ރެކޯޑެއް އޮކްޓޫބަރު 18، 2025 ބ. އަތޮޅުގައި ބޭއްވި "ބާނީ އިވެންޓް" ގައި ހޯދައިފިއެވެ.
މި އިވެންޓްގައި ޖުމްލަ 623 ސްނޯކްލަރަކު ބައިވެރިވެފައިވެއެވެ. މި ކާމިޔާބީއަކީ ކަނޑާއި މާހައުލަށް ދިވެހި ޤައުމުގެ އެއްބާރުލުމާއި، ދެމެހެއްޓެނިވި މެރިން ޓޫރިޒަމް ކުރިއެރުވުމަށް ދެވޭ އިސްކަން ހާމަވެގެންދާ މުހިންމު ހަށައްޓެކެވެ.
ބ. އަތޮޅު ކައުންސިލްއާއި ވިޒިޓް މޯލްޑިވްސް ކޯޕަރޭޝަން ގުޅިގެން އިންތިޒާމުކުރި މި ހަރަކާތުގައި، 13 ރަށާއި 15 ރިޒޯޓުގެ މުވައްޒަފުން، ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ ފަތުރުވެރިން އަދި ދިވެހި ރައްޔިތުން ވެސް ބައިވެރިވިއެވެ. މި ބޮޑު ބައިވެރިވުމުން ދައްކުވައިދެނީ ކަނޑުގެ ދިރުންތައް ރައްކާތެރިކުރުމަށް އެންމެން އެކުގައި ދޭ އަހައްމިއްޔަތުކަމެވެ.
ރެކޯޑް ހެދި ގޮތް:
ރެކޯޑު ހެދުމުގެ ހަރަކާތް ކުރިއަށް ގެންގޮސްފައިވަނީ ބ. އަތޮޅުގެ ވެރިކަންކުރާ ރަށް، އޭދަފުއްޓާ 10 މިނިޓު ދުރުގައި އޮންނަ ވިލިނގިލިފަރު ފިނޮޅުގެ ކައިރީގައެވެ. ކަނޑުގެ ދިރުންތައް ގިނަ، ރީތި ހުޅަނގު ފަރާތުގެ ފަރަކީ މި އިވެންޓަށް އެކަށޭނަ ތަނެއްކަން ފާހަގަކުރެވެއެވެ.
ރެކޯޑް ހެދުމަށް ސްނޯކްލިންގ ކުރަން ފެށީ ހަވީރު 4:30 ގައެވެ. ވަގުތު ކަނޑައެޅި ގޮތަށް އެއްފަހަރާ އެތައް ސަތޭކަ ބަޔަކު ވަޅުގަނޑުގެ ދެފަރާތުން ކަނޑަށް ފޭބިއެވެ. އެއް ގަޑިއިރުގެ ސްނޯކްލިންގ ސެޝަންގެ ފަހުން، ގިނަސް ވޯލްޑް ރެކޯޑްސްގެ އެޑްޖުޑިކޭޓަރަކު މި ކާމިޔާބީ ރަސްމީކޮށް ކަށަވަރުކޮށްދެއްވިއެވެ. އޭގެ ފަހުން، މިއުޒިކާއި، ކުޅިވަރުތަކާއި، ބާރުގަދަ އަލިފާންގަނޑު ހިމެނޭ ޚާއްސަ ރަސްމިއްޔާތެއްގައި ބ. އަތޮޅު ކައުންސިލާ ހަވާލުކުރިއެވެ.
މި ކާމިޔާބީ ވަނީ ވިޒިޓް މޯލްޑިވްސް ބުކް އޮފް ރެކޯޑްސް ގައި ވެސް ހިމަނާފައެވެ. ވީއެމްސީގެ ސީއީއޯ އަދި އެމްޑީ އިބްރާހިމް ޝިއުރީ ވަނީ ރެކޯޑަށް ޝުކުރު އަދާކުރުމުގެ ގޮތުން ހަނދާނީ ފިލައަކާއި، ފައިސާ ނާނާއެއް ބ. އަތޮޅު ކައުންސިލާ ހަވާލުކުރައްވާފައެވެ.
ބާނީ އިވެންޓް މިވަނީ، ޤައުމީ އެއްބައިވަންތަކަމާއި މާހައުލަށް ދޭ ސަމާލުކަމުގެ ރަމްޒަކަށްވެފައެވެ. މި ހަރަކާތް އެއްގޮތްވަނީ މެރިން ޓޫރިޒަމާއި ދެމެހެއްޓެނިވި ތަރައްޤީގައި ރާއްޖެއަކީ ދުނިޔޭގެ ލީޑަރެއްގެ ގޮތުގައި ކުރިއަރުވައިގެންދިޔުމަށް ވީއެމްސީއިން ކުރާ މަސައްކަތާއެވެ. އަދި ޓޫރިޒަމްގެ ތަރައްޤީއާއި ކަނޑުގެ ދިރުންތައް ރައްކާތެރިކުރުން އެއްކޮށް ކުރިއަށް ގެންދެވޭނެކަން މި ހަރަކާތުން ދައްކުވައިދެއެވެ.
