High Court Judge Ibrahim Mahir has retired from his position, ending a judicial career that spanned more than two decades.
The High Court expressed gratitude on its social media platforms for Mahir’s valuable service as a judge. He was appointed to the High Court in September 2025 and tendered his resignation to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in August 2026. The commission approved his retirement, which took effect after just 11 months on the High Court bench. No official reason for the decision has been publicly stated.
Mahir began his judicial career at the Civil Court on 9 November 2005. He later moved to the Family Court on 23 May 2010, where he eventually served as Chief Judge and became one of the court’s longest-serving members. He left that role upon his appointment to the High Court in September 2025.
His retirement closes a long chapter in the Maldivian judiciary that began in the lower courts and culminated in a brief period at the High Court.
