Maldivians Invited to Compete in Prestigious Quran Recitation Contest in Saudi Arabia

Maldivian youth with a passion for Quranic memorisation and recitation have been given a unique opportunity to represent the nation on a global stage. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is inviting participants from the Maldives to take part in the prestigious King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorisation, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Quran, held annually in the holy city of Makkah.

A Global Platform for Quranic Excellence

Organised by the General Secretariat of the Holy Quran Competition under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance, this international event draws top Quran reciters from around the world. It is widely regarded as one of the most esteemed competitions dedicated to the mastery of the Quran.

This year, the National Centre for the Holy Quran in the Maldives will select two candidates to participate, each competing in one of two specific categories.

Competition Categories and Eligibility

The first category requires participants to memorise the entire Holy Quran, showcasing their ability to recite fluently with accurate Tajweed and intonation. The second category involves the memorisation of 15 consecutive Juz’ (sections) of the Quran, also with flawless recitation.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be male, a citizen of the Maldives, and under the age of 25 according to the Hijri calendar

  • Not have participated in this international competition previously

  • Not be widely recognised as a public Quran reciter in the Maldives

  • For full memorisation applicants: Provide a valid certificate of memorisation and demonstrate proficiency in Tajweed

The National Centre will carefully evaluate all applications and select one finalist per category. Special accommodations will be made for participants who are visually impaired, have special needs, or are under 17 years of age—in such cases, the competition organisers will sponsor a parent or guardian to accompany them to Saudi Arabia.

Application Deadline Approaching

Eligible and interested individuals are encouraged to act swiftly. Application forms must be submitted to the National Centre for the Holy Quran no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 11 June.

This invitation marks a rare opportunity for young Maldivians to represent their country in a spiritual and intellectual arena, while deepening their connection with the Holy Quran and sharing their talent on an international platform.
