New Scholarships for Maldivians Open for Study in India and Japan

Maldivians aspiring to pursue higher education and international research opportunities have fresh prospects ahead. The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development has officially opened applications for two prestigious scholarship programs—one in India and the other in Japan.

These opportunities are designed to support academic growth, strengthen professional capabilities, and promote global knowledge exchange for Maldivian students and researchers.

Study Dam Safety in India Under ITEC Program

The first scholarship opportunity offers an M.Tech. program in Dam Safety and Rehabilitation in India. This fully funded program is part of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scheme—a long-standing initiative that supports capacity-building for partner countries.

Only two scholarships are available under this scheme, making it a competitive opportunity for eligible candidates. The deadline to apply is 12:00 PM on 4th June 2025. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their applications through the official portal at
https://a2ascholarships.iccr.gov.in.

This program is ideal for professionals or graduates seeking to contribute to national infrastructure safety and sustainability through advanced technical knowledge.

Research Fellowship in Japan with Matsumae Foundation

The second opportunity comes from the Matsumae International Foundation in Japan, offering a Research Sponsored Fellowship Programme for the academic years 2026 to 2027.

This fellowship is tailored for experienced researchers who are eager to deepen their expertise in Japan's world-class academic environment. Applications must be submitted by 30th June 2025, and more information is available on the Ministry's portal at

This initiative not only fosters individual academic growth but also builds meaningful cross-cultural academic ties between the Maldives and Japan.
