69 Children Registered Under Single-Parent Care in August, Over MVR 4.9 Million Disbursed

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) reported that 69 children were newly enrolled under single-parent care in August, as part of ongoing efforts to support vulnerable families.

According to the agency, this brings the total number of children receiving assistance to 4,901. During the same period, 30 single mothers and fathers were registered, raising the total number of single-parent beneficiaries to 2,870.

In August alone, NSPA disbursed MVR 4,905,000 to children under the care of single parents. Each single parent receives a monthly allowance of MVR 2,000, with an additional MVR 1,000 for each child beyond the first. These payments aim to provide essential support for families navigating the challenges of single-parent households.

The agency also continues to assist children in foster care. Last month, four new foster parents were registered, increasing the total number to 97. Currently, 130 children are in foster care, with MVR 178,500 distributed in August to support their well-being.

NSPA’s initiatives highlight the government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and supporting single parents across the Maldives.
