During his official visit to Pakistan, Maldives Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah met with Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Chairman of Pakistan’s Senate. The discussion centered on enhancing the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and Pakistan.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, Speaker Abdul Raheem highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing support in critical areas such as education, healthcare, and trade, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its assistance in the construction of the Maldives Parliament building. He described the facility as a lasting symbol of the strong ties and mutual respect shared between the Maldives and Pakistan.
Beyond bilateral matters, the two leaders also touched on broader concerns impacting the Islamic world. Speaker Abdul Raheem condemned Israel’s ongoing actions against Palestinians in Gaza, reaffirming that the Maldives remains committed to supporting the Palestinian cause.
Speaker Abdul Raheem arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for the official visit, accompanied by a delegation of Maldives parliamentarians. The team includes MP Mohamed Shahid (Hulhudhoo Constituency), MP Husni Mubarak (Manadhoo Constituency), MP Yoosuf Nasheed (Gan Constituency), and MP Abdullah Shazeem (Hulhumale Central Constituency).
