The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has issued a firm warning to recipients of flats under the Gedhoruveriya social housing project: any attempt to rent out these units will result in confiscation. The directive comes amid the ongoing handover of flats in Hulhumale Phase 2, where some recipients have reportedly listed their newly acquired units for rent, in direct violation of their agreements with the FDC.
FDC Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel emphasized the social purpose of these units during a statement on X today. “These flats are intended for citizens in urgent need of housing. If tenants rent them out against the agreement, we will trace the individuals involved, cancel their agreements, and confiscate the flats,” he said.
The warning comes as public concern grows, with many advocating for the immediate revocation of allocations where violations have been identified.
Reports indicate that a three-bedroom flat has been advertised for MVR 25,000 per month, far exceeding the government-set rent of MVR 11,500. Such listings have fueled criticism, as these social housing units were meant to provide affordable accommodation for vulnerable communities.
The FDC recently began distributing keys for the 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriya project, starting with the 14th tower of Amaan Udhares in Hulhumale Phase 2. As of Thursday, 78 recipients had received their keys, and the respective towers now have functioning water and electricity services, according to the corporation.
The FDC’s warning sends a clear message: social housing is for those who genuinely need it, and any attempts to exploit the program will face strict repercussions.

އެގޮތުން، ފްލެޓް ލިބުނު ބައެއް ފަރާތްތަކުން ވަނީ، އެފްޑީސީ އާއެކު ހެދި އެއްބަސްވުމުގައި ކުއްޔަށް ދޫކުރުން މަނާކޮށްފައި އޮތް ނަމަވެސް، އެމީހުންގެ އާ ފްލެޓްތައް ކުއްޔަށް ދޫކުރަން އިޢުލާނު ކޮށްފައެވެ.
އެފްޑީސީގެ މެނޭޖިންގ ޑިރެކްޓަރު ޙަމްދާން ޝަކީލ އެކްސް (ކުރީގެ ޓްވިޓާ) މެދުވެރިކޮށް ވިދާޅުވީ، މިއީ ގެދޮރުގެ ދަތިކަން ހުރި ފަރާތްތަކަށް ހާއްސަކޮށްފައިވާ ސޯޝަލް ހައުސިންގ ޔުނިޓްތަކެއް ކަމަށްވާތީ، ކޯޕަރޭޝަނުން ނިންމުންތައް ވަރަށް ހަރުކަށިވާނެ ކަމަށެވެ.
"އެއްބަސްވުމާ ޚިލާފަށް ފްލެޓްތައް ކުއްޔަށް ދޫކޮށްފިނަމަ، ކުއްޔަށް ދޫކުރި ފަރާތްތައް ހޯދައި، އެ ފަރާތްތަކާއެކު ހަދާފައިވާ އެއްބަސްވުން ބާޠިލް ކުރެވި، ފްލެޓް ނިގުޅައިގަނެވޭނެ،" ޙަމްދާން ޝަކީލް ވިދާޅުވިއެވެ.
މިކަމާ ގުޅިގެން ޢާންމުންގެ ކަންބޮޑުވުން ބޮޑުވެ، ބައެއް ފަރާތްތަކުން ވަނީ މިފަދަ ކުއްޔަށް ދޫކުރުމުގެ އިޢުލާންތަކާ ގުޅިގެން، ވަގުތުން ބައެއް ފްލެޓްތައް ދޫކުރުން ކެންސަލް ކުރުމަށް ގޮވާލާފައެވެ.
ތިން ކޮޓަރީގެ ފްލެޓެއް ވަނީ 25,000 ރުފިޔާ އަށް ކުއްޔަށް ދޫކުރަން އިޢުލާނު ކޮށްފައެވެ. މިއީ ސަރުކާރުން ކަނޑައަޅާފައިވާ ކުލި ކަމަށްވާ 11,500 ރުފިޔާ އަށް ވުރެ 13,500 ރުފިޔާ ބޮޑު އަދަދެކެވެ.
އެފްޑީސީ އިން ވަނީ 4,000 ފްލެޓްގެ ތެރެއިން ފުރަތަމަ އަމާން އުދަރެސްގެ 14 ވަނަ ޓަވަރުން ފެށިގެން ހުޅުމާލެ ފޭސް 2 ގައި ފްލެޓްތަކުގެ ތަޅުދަނޑި ހަވާލުކުރަން ފަށާފައެވެ.
ބުރާސްފަތި ދުވަހުގެ ނިޔަލަށް 78 ފަރާތަކަށް ވަނީ ތަޅުދަނޑި ހަވާލުކޮށްފަ އެވެ. އަދި އެ ޓަވަރުތަކަށް މިހާރު ވަނީ ފެނާއި ކަރަންޓުގެ ޚިދުމަތް ޤާއިމު ކޮށްފައެވެ.
