The Maldivian government has unveiled plans to invest MVR 68 million in constructing Waqf buildings across five locations, including four major cities and Villingili in Gaafu Alif Atoll. The initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy to strengthen and expand the national Waqf system.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the projects will take place in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Villingili. Of the total investment, MVR 23 million has been allocated to Addu, MVR 15 million to Fuvahmulah, and MVR 10 million each for Thinadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, and Villingili.
Construction on all five Waqf buildings is scheduled to start in January. The ministry emphasized that profits generated from these endowment buildings will support Islamic activities, such as Qur’an education and religious outreach programs, within the respective communities.
In addition to these projects, the ministry plans to launch two more Waqf initiatives in the Malé area, with benefits expected to reach nationwide, reinforcing sustainable religious and social development across the Maldives.
The Waqf projects are being executed in partnership with city and atoll councils, ensuring that funds generated remain under local council management. This approach builds on the City Endowment and Atoll Endowment initiative, launched on 4 January last year, which aimed to create long-term, sustainable support for religious and social programs.
A Waqf is an Islamic charitable endowment in which individuals or institutions donate buildings, land, or other assets for religious or social welfare purposes. These assets are often used to establish mosques, schools, hospitals, or housing for those in need, ensuring that the benefits serve the community for generations.
By investing in these projects, the government aims not only to strengthen religious infrastructure but also to provide lasting social benefits, ensuring communities across the Maldives have access to vital religious and educational resources.

އިސްލާމިކް މިނިސްޓްރީން ހާމަކުރެއްވި ގޮތުގައި، މި މަޝްރޫޢުތަކަކީ ރައީސް ޑރ. މުޙައްމަދު މުޢިއްޒުގެ ސިޔާސަތުގެ ދަށުން، ޤައުމީ ވަޤުފު ނިޒާމް ފުޅާކުރުމަށް ހިންގާ މަޝްރޫޢުތަކެކެވެ.
މަޝްރޫޢުތައް ހިންގާ ސަރަޙައްދުތަކާއި، ހަރަދުވާނެ ޢަދަދުތައް:
- އައްޑޫ ސިޓީ: 23 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ
- ފުވައްމުލައް ސިޓީ: 15 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ
- ތިނަދޫ ސިޓީ: 10 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ
- ކުޅުދުއްފުށި ސިޓީ: 10 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ
- ގއ. ވިލިނގިލި: 10 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ
މި ހުރިހާ މަޝްރޫޢުތައް ވެސް އަންނަ އަހަރުގެ ޖެނުއަރީ މަހު ފެށުމަށް ވަނީ ތާވަލުކުރެވިފައެވެ.
މަޝްރޫޢުގެ ބޭނުން:
މި ވަޤުފު އިމާރާތްތަކުން ލިބޭ ފައިދާ ބޭނުންކުރާނީ އެ ސަރަޙައްދުތަކުގައި ޤުރުއާން ކިޔެވުންފަދަ ދީނީ ތަޢުލީމާއި، ދީނީ ހޭލުންތެރިކުރުމުގެ ހަރަކާތްތަކަށް އެހީވުމަށެވެ.
އިތުރު މަޝްރޫޢުތައް:
އިސްލާމިކް މިނިސްޓްރީން ވިދާޅުވީ، މި ފަސް މަޝްރޫޢުގެ އިތުރުން، މާލެ ސަރަޙައްދުގައި ވެސް އިތުރު ދެ ވަޤުފު މަޝްރޫޢެއް ފެށުމަށް ރާވާފައިވާ ކަމަށާއި، މި މަޝްރޫޢުތަކުގެ ފައިދާ މުޅި ޤައުމަށް ފޯރުކޮށްދިނުމަށް މަސައްކަތްކުރާނެ ކަމަށެވެ.
މަޝްރޫޢުތައް ހިންގާނެ ގޮތް:
މިހާރު ހިންގާ ވަޤުފު މަޝްރޫޢުތައް ހިންގަނީ ސިޓީ ކައުންސިލްތަކާއި އަތޮޅު ކައުންސިލްތަކާ ގުޅިގެންނެވެ. އަދި މި މަސައްކަތްތަކުން ލިބޭ ފައިސާ ބަލަހައްޓާނީ ވެސް ކައުންސިލްތަކުން ކަމަށް މިނިސްޓްރީން ހާމަކުރެއެވެ.
ދީނީ އަދި އިޖުތިމާޢީ ދެމެހެއްޓެނިވި ތަރައްޤީއަށް ބާރުއެޅުމުގެ ގޮތުން، އިސްލާމިކް މިނިސްޓްރީން ވަނީ މިދިޔަ އަހަރުގެ ޖެނުއަރީ 4 ވަނަ ދުވަހު ސިޓީ އެންޑޯމަންޓް އަދި އަތޮޅު އެންޑޯމަންޓް މަޝްރޫޢު ފަށާފައެވެ.
