Parliament Majority Leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah has called on the government to reclaim plots of land in Male’ that were distributed free of charge during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Describing the move as a “huge injustice,” Falah argued that such allocations created an unfair divide among citizens.
Speaking at a parliamentary session today, Falah emphasized that he was voicing his concerns as a Maldivian citizen rather than in his political capacity as a representative of the People’s National Congress (PNC).
“The land should be taken back, after compensating for any construction work done on it,” Falah said. “Ninety-nine percent of people would agree this was unfair. One person pays for a flat while another receives a 1,200-square-foot plot for free—what kind of justice is that?”
Falah estimated that if the plots had been sold through open bidding, each could have fetched around MVR 12 million. In contrast, many flat recipients are paying approximately MVR 4 million over a 25-year period.
He urged the government to recover the land, offering compensation only for any construction made on the sites. According to Falah, such an action could save the state nearly MVR 10 billion, easing pressure on national finances.
The issue has drawn criticism even from members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which held a parliamentary majority when the land was allocated.
Former MDP MP Moosa Siraj submitted a letter to Parliament, noting that flats in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 were given to residents under the H8 and H9 categories on a payment basis. Meanwhile, others reportedly received prime land in Male’ free of charge.
Siraj highlighted that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) recently opened 60 plots for sale at MVR 7,000 per square foot, with high demand from Male’ residents. He described the previous government’s free land distribution as a “gross injustice,” stating that around MVR 48 billion worth of land had been handed out to 5,000 families, even as the country’s public debt reached MVR 100 billion.
Siraj questioned whether the allocation process was equitable and transparent, urging the state to evaluate the potential revenue it could have generated through public bidding.
With concerns mounting over national debt and fiscal management, both ruling and opposition figures now appear to agree that the previous land distribution policy requires a closer look.

ފަލާޙްގެ ބަސްފުޅުތަކުގެ ޚުލާޞާ:
- "މީގެތެރެއިން އެޅިފައި ހުރި އެއްވެސް އިމާރާތެއްގެ ބަދަލު ދެއްވުމަށްފަހު، މި ބިންތައް އަނބުރާ ނަގަން ޖެހޭ ކަމަށް އަޅުގަނޑު ގަބޫލުކުރަނީ."
- "އެއް ބަޔަކަށް ފްލެޓް ދެނީ ފައިސާ ނަގައިގެން، އެކަމަކު އަނެއް ބަޔަކަށް 1200 އަކަފޫޓުގެ ބޮޑު ބިމެއް ދެނީ ހިލޭ. މިއީ އިންސާފެއް ނޫން ކަމަށް 99 އިންސައްތަ މީހުން ގަބޫލުކުރާނެ."
ފަލާޙް ވިދާޅުވީ، މި ބިންތައް ނީލަމުގައި ވިއްކާނަމަ ކޮންމެ ގޯއްޗަކަށް ގާތްގަނޑަކަށް 12 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ ލިބޭނެ ކަމަށެވެ. އެހެންކަމުން، ބިމުގައި ކުރެވިފައިވާ މަސައްކަތުގެ ބަދަލު ދެއްވުމަށްފަހު ބިންތައް އަނބުރާ ނަގައިފިނަމަ، ދައުލަތަށް ގާތްގަނޑަކަށް 10 ބިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ ސަލާމަތް ކުރެވޭނެ ކަމަށް ވެސް އޭނާ ސަރުކާރަށް އިލްތިމާސްކުރެއްވިއެވެ.
އެމްޑީޕީގެ ކުރީގެ މެންބަރެއްގެ ފާޑުކިއުން
މާލެ ސަރަހައްދުން ބިން ހިލޭ ދޫކުރި މައްސަލައަށް، ކުރީގެ ސަރުކާރުގައި ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖިލީހުގެ މެޖޯރިޓީ ހޯދާފައިވާ އެމްޑީޕީގެ ބައެއް މެންބަރުން ވެސް ވަނީ ފާޑުކިޔާފައެވެ.
އެގޮތުން، އެމްޑީޕީގެ ކުރީގެ މެންބަރު މޫސާ ސިރާޖު ވަނީ މަޖިލީހަށް ސިޓީއެއް ހުށަހަޅުއްވައި، ހުޅުމާލެ ފޭސް 2 ގެ ފްލެޓްތައް މާލޭގެ H8 އަދި H9 ކެޓަގަރީގެ ރައްޔިތުންނަށް ދީފައިވަނީ ފައިސާގެ އުސޫލުން ކަމަށް ފާހަގަކުރައްވައިފައެވެ.
މޫސާ ސިރާޖު ފާހަގަކުރެއްވި ގޮތުގައި، ދައުލަތުގެ ދަރަނި 100 ބިލިއަން ރުފިޔާއަށް އަރާފައިވާ މި ދަނޑިވަޅުގައި، 5000 އާއިލާއަށް 48 ބިލިއަން ރުފިޔާގެ ބިން ހިލޭ ދޫކުރުމަކީ ބޮޑު އަނިޔާވެރިކަމެކެވެ. މި ބިންތައް ނީލަމުގައި ވިއްކާލައިފިނަމަ ދައުލަތަށް ލިބޭނެ އާމްދަނީގެ ލަފާކުރެވޭ މިންވަރު ހާމަކުރުމަށް ވެސް އޭނާ ގޮވައިލައްވައިފައިވެއެވެ.
