The State Electric Company (Stelco) has officially inaugurated a new power plant in Dhiffushi, Kaafu Atoll — a milestone project completed in record time under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the facility during his ongoing visit to islands across Kaafu Atoll. He was joined by Stelco’s Managing Director Ahmed Shamah and several senior company officials for the opening ceremony, which marked one of the administration’s earliest infrastructure achievements.
Construction of the Dhiffushi power plant began on June 26, 2024, and reached completion on April 30, 2025 — less than a year later. Stelco noted that this was the first project initiated and completed during the current government’s tenure, emphasizing the company’s growing efficiency and commitment to timely infrastructure delivery.
Dhiffushi station manager Hussain Shafiu revealed that the island’s previous power facility had a generation capacity of just 2,200 kilowatts. The newly completed plant triples that output, ensuring a more stable electricity supply and accommodating Dhiffushi’s rising energy needs for years to come.
The 30,000-square-foot complex was designed not only for functionality but also for employee comfort and efficiency. The new building houses administrative offices, a kitchen, a coffee corner, and a prayer room — reflecting Stelco’s focus on improving the working environment for its staff.
In addition, Stelco has addressed a long-standing issue concerning staff accommodation. Previously, employees were forced to rent housing on the island at significant cost. The new power plant premises now include a two-bedroom accommodation block for staff, providing what the company described as a “major cost relief” and enhancing on-site convenience.
The facility also features a modern control room and two newly constructed fuel tanks designed to expand storage capacity and streamline fuel supply operations. Stelco said these upgrades will improve energy reliability while reducing logistical challenges in fuel transportation and storage.
The Dhiffushi project stands as a testament to Stelco’s renewed focus on efficiency, modernization, and service reliability — a direction the company says aligns closely with the government’s broader vision for national development and infrastructure growth.

މި ސްޓޭޝަން ރަސްމީކޮށް ހުޅުވައިދެއްވީ ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާ ޑރ. މުޙައްމަދު މުޢިއްޒު، އެމަނިކުފާނު ކ. އަތޮޅަށް ކުރައްވަމުން ގެންދަވާ ދަތުރުފުޅުގެ ތެރެއިންނެވެ. މި ރަސްމިއްޔާތުގައި ސްޓެލްކޯގެ މެނޭޖިންގ ޑިރެކްޓަރ އަޙްމަދު ޝަމާހްއާއި، އެ ކުންފުނީގެ އިސްވެރިން ބައިވެރިވެވަޑައިގެންނެވިއެވެ.
ކުރު މުއްދަތެއްގައި ނިންމާލި މަޝްރޫޢު:
ދިއްފުށީ ކަރަންޓު ސްޓޭޝަންގެ މަސައްކަތް ފަށާފައިވަނީ 2024 ވަނަ އަހަރުގެ ޖޫން މަހުގެ 26 ވަނަ ދުވަހުއެވެ. އަދި 2025 ވަނަ އަހަރުގެ އެޕްރީލް މަހުގެ 30 ވަނަ ދުވަހު މި މަސައްކަތް ނިންމާލެވުނެވެ. މި މަޝްރޫޢަކީ މިހާރުގެ ސަރުކާރުން ފައްޓަވައި ނިންމަވާލެއްވި ފުރަތަމަ މަޝްރޫޢެވެ.
ކަރަންޓު އުފެއްދުމުގެ ޤާބިލުކަން އިތުރުވުން:
ދިއްފުށީ ސްޓޭޝަން މެނޭޖަރ ޙުސައިން ޝަފީޢު ދެއްވި މަޢުލޫމާތުގައިވާ ގޮތުގައި، ކުރީގެ ކަރަންޓު ސްޓޭޝަންގެ ޖަނަރޭޓުކުރުމުގެ ޤާބިލުކަމަކީ 2,200 kW އެވެ. ނަމަވެސް، އަލަށް ހުޅުވި ސްޓޭޝަންގެ ޖަނަރޭޓުކުރުމުގެ ޤާބިލުކަން ވަނީ ތިން ގުނަ އިތުރުކުރެވިފައެވެ. މިކަމުގެ ސަބަބުން ކަރަންޓުގެ ޔަޤީންކަން ބޮޑުވެ، މުސްތަޤްބަލުގެ ބޭނުންތަކަށް ވެސް ފުދޭވަރަށް ޚިދުމަތް ދެވޭނެއެވެ.
