The State Trading Organisation (STO) has officially begun importing 23 food items recently added to the nation’s essential food list, reinforcing the government’s efforts to keep basic food products accessible and affordable for all Maldivians.
In a statement released today, STO confirmed that these essential products will now be available at STO Wholesale Centres and STO People’s Choice outlets across the country. The initiative is part of the government’s broader policy to ensure a steady supply of everyday necessities at reasonable prices.
“Providing Maldivians with reliable access to essential food items remains a top priority,” STO said, highlighting its commitment to supporting the nation’s food security.
STO stated that the prices of the 23 newly added items have been set according to current market rates and may fluctuate in line with market conditions. To help consumers stay informed, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade maintains an updated price list through its Agumaagu portal, allowing residents to monitor price changes in real time.
Beyond retail access, STO is exploring ways to make it easier for local businesses to procure these essential items according to market demand. Discussions are ongoing to implement strategies that balance supply with the needs of both consumers and commercial buyers.
The Cabinet recently approved the bulk import of 10 varieties of fruits, 10 varieties of vegetables, and other essential food items through STO for local distribution. This move aims to stabilize the market, ensuring that both households and businesses can access nutritious food without excessive price pressure.
STO’s announcement marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s food supply chain and supporting the government’s mission to maintain affordable, healthy food for all Maldivians.

މިއަދު ނެރުނު ނޫސްބަޔާނެއްގައި އެސްޓީއޯއިން ބުނީ، މިއީ އަސާސީ ކާނާގެ ބާވަތްތައް ހެޔޮ އަގެއްގައި ރައްޔިތުންނަށް ލިބޭނެކަން ކަށަވަރުކުރުމަށް ސަރުކާރުން ގެންގުޅޭ ސިޔާސަތާ އެއްގޮތްވާ ގޮތުގެ މަތިން ކުރިއަށްގެންދާ މަސައްކަތެއް ކަމަށެވެ. އެގޮތުން، މި 23 ބާވަތުގެ ކާނާ މިހާރު އެސްޓީއޯ ހޯލްސޭލް ސެންޓަރުތަކާއި، އެސްޓީއޯ ޕީޕަލްސް ޗޮއިސް ފިހާރަތަކުން ޤައުމީ ފެންވަރުގައި ލިބެން ހުންނާނެ ކަމަށް ވަނީ ކަށަވަރުކޮށްދީފަ އެވެ.
އެސްޓީއޯއިން ބުނިގޮތުގައި މި 23 ބާވަތުގެ އަގު ކަނޑައަޅާފައި ވަނީ ބާޒާރުގައި މިހާރު ހުރި އަގުތަކާ އެއްގޮތަށް ބަލައިގެންނެވެ. އަދި ބާޒާރުގެ ހާލަތަށް ބަލައި މި އަގުތަކަށް ބަދަލު އައުން އެކަށީގެންވާ ކަމަށް ވެސް އެ ކުންފުނިން ފާހަގަކުރެ އެވެ. އަގުތަކަށް އަންނަ ބަދަލުތައް އިޤްތިޞާދީ ތަރައްޤީއާއި ވިޔަފާރިއާ ބެހޭ ވުޒާރާގެ 'އަގުމާގު' ޕޯޓަލް މެދުވެރިކޮށް ބެލެން ހުންނާނެ އެވެ.
ވިޔަފާރިތަކަށް ބާޒާރުގެ ޑިމާންޑާ އެއްގޮތަށް މި ތަކެތި ހޯދުމަށް ފަސޭހަ ގޮތްތައް ހަމަޖެއްސުމާ ގުޅޭގޮތުން މަޝްވަރާތައް ކުރިއަށްދާ ކަމަށް ވެސް އެސްޓީއޯއިން ބުނެ އެވެ. މީގެ އިތުރުން، ދިވެހި ރައްޔިތުންނަށް އަބަދުވެސް ސިއްޙަތަށް ފައިދާހުރި ކާނާ ހެޔޮ އަގުގައި ހޯދައިދިނުމަށް އެ ކުންފުނި ސާބިތުކަމާއެކު މަސައްކަތްކުރާނެ ކަމަށް އެސްޓީއޯއިން ވަނީ ޔަޤީންކޮށްދީފަ އެވެ.
މިކަމާ ގުޅިގެން، ކެބިނެޓުން ވަނީ 10 ބާވަތުގެ މޭވާއާއި، 10 ބާވަތުގެ ތަރުކާރީގެ އިތުރުން އެހެނިހެން އަސާސީ ކާނާގެ ބާވަތްތައް ބޮޑު ޢަދަދަކަށް އެސްޓީއޯ މެދުވެރިކޮށް އެތެރެކޮށް، ލޯކަލް މާކެޓުގައި ވިއްކުމަށް ފާސްކޮށްފަ އެވެ.
