BML to Double Foreign Spending Limits on Credit Cards Starting Sunday

Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a significant increase in foreign transaction limits for its credit card holders, offering customers greater flexibility when making payments overseas. The revised limits will come into effect from Sunday and apply to selected BML credit card categories.

The move is expected to benefit Maldivians who frequently travel abroad or make international online purchases, especially as global travel and digital payments continue to grow.

Under the new policy, foreign transaction limits on BML Classic, Gold, and Platinum Credit Cards will be nearly doubled.

Updated Credit Card Foreign Limits

BML Classic Credit Card: Increased from USD 750 to USD 1,400

BML Gold Credit Card: Increased from USD 750 to USD 1,500

BML Platinum Credit Card: Increased from USD 1,500 to USD 3,000

These adjustments aim to align spending limits more closely with customer needs, particularly for those managing travel expenses, accommodation, and international services.

This latest announcement builds on previous changes made by the bank to improve overseas payment access. From November 11 last year, BML increased the point-of-sale payment allowance abroad for debit card holders from USD 500 to USD 1,000.

In addition, debit card users are currently permitted to spend up to USD 3,000 for airline ticket purchases and hotel bookings made outside the Maldives. This allowance is specifically designed to support essential travel-related expenses.

BML has also made provisions for customers facing medical expenses overseas. Upon request, the bank facilitates debit card payments to hospitals abroad, allowing patients and their families to manage critical healthcare costs more smoothly.
