A' Level studies have officially begun, welcoming 3,200 students this year, marking a significant increase in enrollment compared to previous years.
Speaking on State TV PSM, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu highlighted the rising number of students pursuing advanced secondary education. “This year, more students are taking up A' Level studies than ever before,” he said.
Each year, approximately 7,000 students complete their O' Level examinations, yet historically only around 2,000 proceed to A' Level studies. This year, however, the figure has surged to 3,000 students, according to Dr. Shafeeu.
The minister encouraged students to remain focused and dedicated as they embark on this crucial stage of education.
“This is the final stage of school life designed to prepare you for the future. The skills and knowledge you gain here will serve you well whether you pursue higher education, join the workforce, or take on entrepreneurial ventures,” Dr. Shafeeu said.
To support the growing interest in A' Level programs, the government introduced several measures this year. These include the reopening of the old CHSE building in Male’ and a lowering of enrollment criteria to make the program more accessible.
In addition, A' Level courses have been expanded to 12 new schools, ensuring a wider reach and more opportunities for students across the country.
With increased access and government support, the Ministry of Education aims to continue boosting the number of students pursuing A' Levels, providing a strong foundation for higher education and career opportunities.
