The Maldives government has collected MVR 192.1 million (approximately USD 12.4 million) from its bunkering services since their launch in November 2024, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed revealed in Parliament today.
Addressing a question from South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Minister Saeed confirmed that MVR 17.3 million of this revenue had been paid as taxes to the state.
“International bunkering operations began in September 2024. So far, revenue has reached MVR 192,149,939, according to data provided by STO,” he said.
A significant portion of the fuel supplied to vessels is low-sulfur fuel—a product previously unavailable in the Maldives. This move aligns with international environmental standards and supports cleaner maritime operations in the region.
Bunkering services are offered offshore in the Ihavandhippolhu zone in collaboration with Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), with fuel supplied directly to ships by the state-owned company STO.
The service operates two vessels: the 3,258-tonne MT Marine Angel and the 3,929-tonne MT Marine Bella. Both ships are built to meet international safety and security standards.
Diesel is primarily supplied to yachts and luxury ships, while cargo and container vessels are fueled with low-sulfur products, catering to a broad range of maritime clients.
Minister Saeed had previously projected that the Maldives’ bunkering services could generate up to USD 400 million in annual revenue, highlighting the sector’s potential as a growing source of government income and a boost to the national economy.
As the Maldives continues to expand its maritime services, low-sulfur fuel and offshore bunkering could position the country as a key hub for regional shipping operations.

ދެކުނު ގަލޮޅު ދާއިރާގެ މެންބަރު މީކާއިލް އަޙްމަދު ނަސީމް ކުރެއްވި ސުވާލަކަށް ޖަވާބު ދެއްވަމުން މިނިސްޓަރު ސަޢީދު ވިދާޅުވީ، މި ޖުމްލަ އާމްދަނީގެ ތެރެއިން 17.3 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ އަކީ ދައުލަތަށް ޓެކްސްގެ ގޮތުގައި ދައްކާފައިވާ ފައިސާ ކަމަށެވެ.
މިނިސްޓަރު އިތުރަށް ވިދާޅުވީ، ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ ބަންކަރިންގ މަސައްކަތް ރަސްމީކޮށް ފެށިފައިވަނީ 2024 ވަނަ އަހަރުގެ ސެޕްޓެމްބަރު މަހު ކަމަށާއި، މިހާތަނަށް އެސްޓީއޯއިން ދީފައިވާ ތަފާސްހިސާބުތަކަށް ބަލާއިރު 192,149,939 ރުފިޔާ ގެ އާމްދަނީ ލިބިފައިވާ ކަމަށެވެ.
ބަންކަރިންގ ޚިދުމަތުގައި، ރާއްޖެއިން ކުރިން ނުލިބޭ ސަލްފަރު މަދު ފިއުލް އެންމެ ގިނައިން ވިއްކާފައިވަނީ ބޭރުގެ އުޅަނދުތަކަށެވެ.
މި އޮފްޝޯރ ބަންކަރިންގ ޚިދުމަތް ދެމުން ގެންދަނީ އިހަވަންދިއްޕޮޅު ޒޯނުގައި އެމްޕީއެލް (މޯލްޑިވްސް ޕޯޓްސް ލިމިޓެޑް) އާ ގުޅިގެންނެވެ. އުޅަނދުތަކަށް ފިއުލް ސީދާ ފޯރުކޮށްދެނީ އެސްޓީއޯ (ސްޓޭޓް ޓްރޭޑިންގ އޯގަނައިޒޭޝަން) އިންނެވެ.
މި ޚިދުމަތަށް ދެ އުޅަނދު ބޭނުންކުރެއެވެ: 3,258 ޓަނުގެ އެމްޓީ މެރިން އެންޖަލް އާއި 3,929 ޓަނުގެ އެމްޓީ މެރިން ބެލާ. މި ދެ އުޅަނދަކީ ވެސް ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ ސަލާމަތާއި ރައްކާތެރިކަމުގެ މިންގަނޑުތަކަށް އެޅިފައިވާ އުޅަނދުތަކެކެވެ.
ޔޮޓާއި ލަގްޒަރީ އުޅަނދުތަކަށް ޑީޒަލް ވިއްކާއިރު، މުދާ އުފުލާ އަދި ކޮންޓެއިނަރު އުޅަނދުތަކަށް ވިއްކަނީ ސަލްފަރު މަދު ފިއުލް އެވެ.
މިނިސްޓަރު ސަޢީދު މީގެ ކުރިން ލަފާކުރައްވާފައިވާ ގޮތުގައި، މި ޚިދުމަތުން އަހަރަކު 400 މިލިއަން އެމެރިކާ ޑޮލަރު (ގާތްގަނޑަކަށް 6.16 ބިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ) ގެ އާމްދަނީއެއް ދައުލަތަށް ލިބޭނެއެވެ.
