Parliament has approved a proposed budget of MVR 134 million for the Auditor General’s (AG) Office for the upcoming fiscal year. The decision came after the Public Accounts Committee reviewed the submission and recommended its approval without any amendments. The motion passed with 51 votes in favor during Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting.
The approved figure marks a MVR 20 million increase compared to the current year’s allocation of MVR 114 million. According to the AG Office, the additional funding will primarily support the recruitment of senior auditors across several departments that are currently operating without department heads.
The office currently manages 22 departments and seven units, but many remain understaffed. Officials noted that the budget increase will help fill these critical gaps, enhancing both oversight and accountability within public institutions.
Ahmed Saleem, Vice-Chair of the Public Accounts Committee and Eydhafushi MP from the Progressive National Congress (PNC), praised the decision as a reflection of the administration’s growing emphasis on transparency.
“The government finds it important that their offices are audited effectively. This is the first time an administration has placed this much importance on the Audit Office,” Saleem stated.
He added that maintaining strong audit mechanisms is essential to ensure fiscal discipline across government bodies and state-owned enterprises.
The Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) component of the budget amounts to MVR 41.5 million for 2025. Of this, MVR 35 million has been earmarked for payments owed to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) under an ongoing project, while MVR 6.5 million will go toward furnishing the new Audit Office building.
As of September this year, the office had already spent MVR 65.68 million, and officials expect their current PSIP project to be completed by March next year.
The Auditor General’s Office also announced plans to conduct 81 audits next year, including financial, compliance, and performance audits. Among these, nine will be special audits and eight will focus on assessing the government’s fiscal position, reflecting a stronger push toward fiscal accountability and efficiency.

އޮޑިޓް އޮފީހަށް އަންނަ އަހަރަށް މި ލިބުނު ބަޖެޓަކީ މި އަހަރުގެ ބަޖެޓާ އަޅާބަލާއިރު 20 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާގެ އިތުރުވުމެކެވެ. މި އަހަރު އެ އޮފީހުގެ ބަޖެޓަކީ 114 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ އެވެ.

އޮޑިޓް އޮފީހުން ބުނި ގޮތުގައި، ބަޖެޓަށް އިތުރުވި މައިގަނޑު ސަބަބަކީ، މިހާރު ވެރިން ނެތް ގިނަ ޑިޕާޓްމަންޓްތަކަށް ސީނިއަރ އޮޑިޓަރުން ހޯދުމުގެ މަސައްކަތް ކުރުމުގެ ޕްލޭނެވެ.
އެ އޮފީހުން ބުނެފައިވާ ގޮތުގައި، އެ އޮފީހުގައި މިހާރު 22 ޑިޕާޓްމަންޓާއި ހަތް ޔުނިޓް ހިންގާއިރު، އޭގެ ތެރެއިން ގިނަ ޑިޕާޓްމަންޓްތަކުން ސީނިއަރ އޮޑިޓަރުންގެ ދަތިކަން ކުރިމަތިވެއެވެ. އިތުރު ބަޖެޓުގެ ސަބަބުން، ކޮލިފައިޑް މުވައްޒަފުން ހޯދައި، އެ އޮފީހުގެ ނަޒާރަތްކުރުމާއި އޮޑިޓް ކުރުމުގެ ޤާބިލުކަން އިތުރަށް ވަރުގަދަ ކުރެވޭނެއެވެ.
ކޮމިޓީގެ ނައިބު ޗެއަރ، ޕީއެންސީގެ މެންބަރު އަދި އޭދަފުށީ ދާއިރާގެ މެންބަރު އަޙުމަދު ސަލީމް ވިދާޅުވީ، އޮޑިޓް އޮފީހުން ހުށަހެޅި ބަޖެޓަށް އެއްވެސް ބަދަލެއް ނުގެނެސް މަޖިލީހުން ހުއްދަ ދިނުމަކީ، އެ އޮފީސް ވަރުގަދަކުރުމަށް ސަރުކާރުން ދޭ އަހައްމިއްޔަތުކަން ދައްކުވައިދޭ ކަމެއް ކަމުގައެވެ.
އަންނަ އަހަރަށް ފާސްކުރި ބަޖެޓުގެ ތެރެއިން 41.5 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ ވަނީ ޕަބްލިކް ސެކްޓަރ އިންވެސްޓްމަންޓް ޕްރޮގްރާމް މަޝްރޫޢުތަކަށް ޚާއްސަކުރެވިފައެވެ.
އޮޑިޓް އޮފީހުން ބުނި ގޮތުގައި، މި އަހަރުގެ ސެޕްޓެމްބަރު މަހާ ހަމައަށް 65.68 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ ޚަރަދުކުރެވިފައިވާއިރު، މިހާރު ކުރިއަށްދާ މަޝްރޫޢުތައް އަންނަ އަހަރުގެ މާރިޗު މަހުގެ ނިޔަލަށް ނިމޭނެ ކަމަށް ލަފާކުރެވެއެވެ.
ޕީއެސްއައިޕީގެ ފައިސާގެ ތެރޭގައި، މިހާރު ކުރިއަށްދާ މަޝްރޫޢެއްގެ ދަށުން އެމްޓީސީސީއަށް ދައްކަންޖެހޭ 35 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ އާއި، އޮޑިޓް އޮފީހުގެ އަލަށް ޢިމާރާތްކުރާ އިމާރާތް ފަރުނިޗަރުކުރުމަށް 6.5 މިލިއަން ރުފިޔާ ހިމެނެއެވެ.
އޮފީހުން ރާވާފައިވާ ގޮތުގައި އަންނަ އަހަރު 81 އޮޑިޓް ހަދާނެއެވެ. މީގެތެރޭގައި މާލީ އޮޑިޓް، ޤަވާއިދުތަކަށް ތަބާވޭތޯ ބެލުމުގެ އޮޑިޓް (ކޮމްޕްލަޔަންސް އޮޑިޓް)، އަދި ޕަރފޯމަންސް އޮޑިޓް ހިމެނެއެވެ. އަދި، ނުވަ 9 ޚާއްޞަ އޮޑިޓާއި، ސަރުކާރުގެ މާލީ ހާލަތު ދެނެގަތުމަށް8 އޮޑިޓް ވެސް ހެދުމަށް ވަނީ ރާވާފައެވެ.
