Ooredoo Fintech and PayPal have officially announced their intent to collaborate in the Maldives, signaling a major milestone in the nation’s digital transformation journey. Both companies are now finalizing the details of the partnership, which is expected to bring significant benefits to consumers and local businesses alike.
According to Ooredoo’s statement, the partnership is scheduled to go live in 2026 and will enable seamless integration between PayPal and Ooredoo’s mobile payment platform, m-Faisaa. This collaboration will allow users in the Maldives to make purchases from PayPal merchants around the world and transfer funds effortlessly between their PayPal and m-Faisaa accounts.
For Maldivian entrepreneurs and businesses, the development opens new opportunities to access international markets, expand customer bases, and strengthen their participation in global e-commerce.
Khalid Al Hamadi, CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Maldives, described the partnership as a major step toward enabling financial inclusion and digital connectivity.

With Ooredoo Fintech and PayPal announcing their intent to collaborate towards linking PayPal wallets to local m-Faisaa wallets, this is an exciting time for individuals and businesses in the Maldives,” said Al Hamadi.
Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed hailed the announcement as a “pivotal moment” for the nation, emphasizing its potential to strengthen the Maldives’ position in the global digital economy.
“This marks a pivotal moment for our nation. We look forward to empowering our citizens and businesses to engage directly in cross-border commerce, unlock new opportunities, and create jobs at home. This initiative has the potential to strengthen our economic transformation while ensuring we bridge the digital divide and leave no community behind,” said Minister Saeed.
This announcement follows earlier efforts by the Maldivian government to introduce PayPal services to the country. In August 2024, Minister Saeed confirmed that the government had submitted a formal proposal to PayPal and held discussions with the company’s senior global marketing officials to explore solutions for enabling access to the platform.
The upcoming collaboration between Ooredoo Fintech and PayPal marks a tangible outcome of those ongoing efforts—paving the way for greater financial accessibility, international trade, and digital empowerment across the Maldives.

މި ޚިދުމަތް 2026 ވަނަ އަހަރު ރާއްޖޭގައި ފެށުމަށް ހަމަޖެހިފައިވާއިރު، ރާއްޖޭގެ ކަސްޓަމަރުންނަށް ޕޭޕަލް ބޭނުންކޮށްގެން ދުނިޔޭގެ އެކި ހިސާބުތަކުން ވިޔަފާރިކުރުމުގެ ފުރުސަތު ލިބިގެންދާނެއެވެ. އަދި ޕޭޕަލް އެކައުންޓާއި އެމް-ފައިސާ އެކައުންޓްގެ މެދުގައި ފައިސާ ފަސޭހަކަމާއެކު ބަދަލުކުރެވޭނެއެވެ.
އުރީދޫ ފިންޓެކް މޯލްޑިވްސްގެ ސީއީއޯ އަދި މެނޭޖިން ޑިރެކްޓަރ ޚާލިދު އަލް ޙަމަދީ ވިދާޅުވީ، ރާއްޖޭގެ ޑިޖިޓަލް ކުރިއެރުން އަވަސްވަމުން އަންނަ މި ދަނޑިވަޅުގައި ބައިނަލްއަޤުވާމީ މުއާމަލާތްތައް ފަސޭހަކޮށްދިނުމަކީ ވަރަށް މުހިންމު ކަމެއް ކަމަށެވެ. އަދި އުރީދޫ ފިންޓެކް އާއި ޕޭޕަލް ގުޅިގެން މި މަސައްކަތް ކުރިއަށް ގެންދާކަމުގެ ޚަބަރު ދިނުމަކީ ރާއްޖޭގެ ފަރުދުންނާއި ވިޔަފާރިތަކަށް ލިބުނު ވަރަށް ބޮޑު އުފަލެއް ކަމަށް ވެސް އޭނާ ވިދާޅުވިއެވެ.
އިޤްތިސާދީ ތަރައްޤީއާ ބެހޭ ވަޒީރު މުހައްމަދު ސައީދު ވިދާޅުވީ، މިއީ ރާއްޖޭގެ އިޤްތިސާދަށް ލިބިގެންދާނެ ވަރަށް މުހިންމު ކުރިއެރުމެއް ކަމަށެވެ. އަދި މިކަމުގެ ސަބަބުން ދިވެހި ރައްޔިތުންނަށް ބައިނަލްއަޤްވާމީ ވިޔަފާރީގެ ދުނިޔެއަށް ވަދެ، އިޤްތިސާދީ ގޮތުން ކުރިއަރައިގެން ދިއުމުގެ ފުރުސަތު ލިބިގެންދާނެ ކަމަށް ވެސް އޭނާ ވިދާޅުވިއެވެ.
ޕޭޕަލްގެ ޚިދުމަތް ރާއްޖެއަށް ގެނައުމަށް ސަރުކާރުން ކުރިން ވެސް މަސައްކަތްތަކެއް ކޮށްފައިވެއެވެ. މިނިސްޓަރ ސައީދު ވަނީ 2024 ވަނަ އަހަރުގެ އޯގަސްޓް މަހުގެ ފަހުކޮޅު ޕޭޕަލްއަށް ޚިދުމަތް ރާއްޖެއަށް ގެނައުމުގެ ހުށަހެޅުމެއް ހުށަހަޅާފައި ކަމަށް ވިދާޅުވެފައެވެ. އަދި ޕޭޕަލްގެ އިސް އޮފިޝަލުންނާ އެކު އޮންލައިން ބައްދަލުވުންތައް ވެސް ވަނީ ބާއްވާފައެވެ.
