A new memorial dedicated to Corporal Hussain Adam, who sacrificed his life during the 1988 invasion of the Maldives, was inaugurated yesterday in his hometown of Kulhudhuffushi City.
The ceremony was attended by Kulhudhuffushi Mayor Mohamed Athif, Hussain Adam’s cousin Ahmed Adam, and family members Aishath Yumna Ahmed and Fathimath Neem Abdul Rasheed, who jointly unveiled the monument.
Mayor Athif emphasized the importance of commemorating those who gave their lives to safeguard the nation’s independence. “The courage and ultimate sacrifice of Hussain Adam, along with others who fell on November 3, 1988, reminds us of the high price of freedom,” he said.
The mayor also reflected on the historical role of the northern atoll in national defence, invoking Mohamed Thakurufaanu, the legendary hero who liberated the Maldives from Portuguese rule. “Like Thakurufaanu, Hussain Adam represents the enduring spirit of our people standing up to protect the country,” Athif added.
The memorial features a striking seven-foot replica of the AK-47 rifle, the weapon associated with Hussain Adam’s heroic efforts. It is situated at the former port area of Kulhudhuffushi—the very place from which he embarked on his final mission.
Kulhudhuffushi City Council confirmed that MVR 900,000 was allocated for the design and construction of the monument, highlighting the city’s commitment to preserving its historical legacy.
This new landmark is expected to serve as both a tribute and an educational site, reminding residents and visitors alike of the sacrifices made to protect the Maldives.
ވަނަ އަހަރު ރާއްޖެއަށް ދިން ޢުދުވާނީ ހަމަލާގައި ޝަހީދުވި ކޯޕްރަލް ޙުސައިން އާދަމްގެ ހަނދާނުގައި ކުޅުދުއްފުށީގައި ބިނާއެއް އިފްތިތާޙުކޮށްފިއެވެ.
މި ބިނާ ރަސްމީކޮށް އިފްތިތާޙުކުރީ އިއްޔެ، ކުޅުދުއްފުށި ސިޓީގެ މޭޔަރު މުޙައްމަދު އާތިފް އާއި، ޝަހީދު ޙުސައިން އާދަމްގެ ބޭބޭފުޅު އަޙްމަދު އާދަމް އަދި އާއިލާގެ މެންބަރުން ކަމަށްވާ ޢާއިޝަތު ޔުމްނާ އަޙުމަދު އަދި ފާޠިމަތު ނީމް ޢަބްދުލް ރަޝީދު އެވެ.
މި ރަސްމިއްޔާތުގައި ވާހަކަ ދައްކަވަމުން މޭޔަރު އާތިފް ފާހަގަކުރެއްވީ، ޤައުމުގެ މިނިވަންކަން ދިފާޢުކުރުމަށްޓަކައި ހަޔާތުން ޤުރުބާންވި ބަތަލުންގެ ހަނދާން އާކުރުމުގެ މުހިންމުކަމެވެ. އޭނާ ވިދާޅުވީ، 1988 ވަނަ އަހަރުގެ ނޮވެމްބަރު 3 ގައި ޝަހީދުވި ހުސައިން އާދަމްގެ ކެރުމާއި ޤުރުބާނީ އަކީ މިނިވަންކަމަށް ދައްކަންޖެހޭ އަގު ބޮޑުކަން ރަމްޒުކޮށްދޭ ކަމެއް ކަމަށެވެ.
މޭޔަރު އިތުރަށް ވިދާޅުވީ، ރާއްޖެ ޕޯޗުގީޒުންގެ އަތްދަށުން މިނިވަންކުރި ބަތަލް މުޙައްމަދު ތަކުރުފާނަކީ ވެސް ޤައުމު ދިފާޢުކުރުމުގެ އެންމެ އިސް ސަފުގައި ހުރި، އެ ސަރަޙައްދުގެ ދަރިއެއް ކަމަށް ހަނދާންކުރައްވައި، ޤައުމީ ދިފާޢަށް އުތުރުގެ އަތޮޅުތަކުން ކުރި ތާރީޚީ އެހީތެރިކަމުގެ މައްޗަށް އަލިއަޅުވާލެއްވިއެވެ.
މި ހަނދާނީ ބިނާ ބިނާކުރެވިފައިވަނީ ޝަހީދު ޙުސައިން އާދަމް އެންމެ ފަހުން ކުޅުދުއްފުށިން ފުރައިގެން ދިޔަ، ކުރީގެ ބަނދަރު ސަރަޙައްދު ގައެވެ.
- މި ބިނާގައި ވަނީ ޙުސައިން އާދަމް ބޭނުންކުރެއްވި އޭ.ކޭ. 47 ރައިފަލެއްގެ ހަތް ފޫޓުގެ މޮޑެލް ބަހައްޓާފައެވެ.
- ސިޓީ ކައުންސިލުން ބުނި ގޮތުގައި، މި ހަނދާނީ ބިނާ ޑިޒައިންކުރުމާއި ބިނާކުރުމަށް ޖުމްލަ 900،000 ރުފިޔާ ޚަރަދުކުރެވުނެވެ.
